Event stewards often provide an important part of the security of any event but are unfortunately taken for granted or overlooked. This can lead to serious breaches in health and safety. Why not have a look at some of our Stewarding Guidelines below? Stewards can provide an important part of event security at any type of event and it is for this reason that it is imperative that they are correctly utilised. Here are some guidelines which you might like to follow: 1. All event stewards should be fully briefed regarding all aspects of the event - from the venue itself to the opening and closing times and type of attendees. 2. All stewards should be provided with as much information as possible. This will include providing them with a detailed venue plan with all fire exits, access points and amenities and a thorough emergency plan detailing evacuation procedures. They will also benefit from having a list of all exhibitors/delegates/performers their names and unit shell numbers. 3. Stewards often find it difficult to cope with large unexpected crowds and so they will find it beneficial to receive a brief as to how best to handle crowd control 4. Ensure that all stewards are clearly visible and all wearing the same style clothes. This will aid the public in finding them and ensure that the crowds move smoothly. 5. All stewards must undergo thorough security training, as they will need to be constantly on the lookout for hazards, which could develop during the event. 6. Evening event stewards will need to be issued with torches and high visibility jackets 7. Work rotas with breaks will be required at all day events. 8. Specific training must also be provided for basic first aid assistance. 9. They may also be required to guide vehicles, clear emergency exits, and sort out any behavioural problems and so should be briefed accordingly.
